And with this guide, we are going to show you how you can take advantage of these mistakes once you spot them in your opponent’s gameplay. Moving Defenders Out Of Position

When it comes to good defending, we talk about having a proper shape, which leads to a solid stance. The defense is about patience and dedication.

However, most the players break these shapes themselves by moving players out of their positions even before you do anything in your attack. Especially when they bring their Central back out of their position, they create a huge space for the opponent.

Using the Second Man Pressure consistently is one of the main reasons that this happens on a regular basis. Moving one Defender out of his position starts a chain reaction and you will actually move other Defenders to cover the first gap, which leads to other openings complete breakdown.

So, how do they get the advantage out of this?

It’s simple. Once you see that they have selected their Defender and start to move him out of position, turn your back against him and move away from his original spot.

This way, you will drag him out of his position if he keeps insisting on chasing with that player and you will create an opening for your other players. If you can fill these gaps, you can find easy opportunities.

As one of the best examples here, I see that the opponent uses the Second Man Pressure to be able to get his player towards me. But that will also create a huge space behind a defensive line.

So, I drag the ball away from that spot and the Defender still follows. I turn around and find my other Attackers who can fill that spot and score an easy goal. Punishing the opponents for their mistakes like this could be fun, but you also need to learn how to fix them for yourself.

Fail Player Switches

Heading to another defensive mistake having late or wrong player switches, there could be many factors that could lead to a problematic player switch.

Your opponent might have a lot of defenders in the back and can properly use the right analog stick to select the intended Defender.

Anyway, this is a huge point where you have to tell yourself, “okay I am going to use this for my own benefit”. If someone is failing at some mechanic in FIFA, make sure you force them to use it as much as possible.

In this case, adjust your build up in a way where they have to use the player switching much more. So, I would definitely recommend moving the ball faster and changing its direction more frequently by switching sides.

This will increase the amount of player switches that your opponent has to execute. And if he is weak at it, you will find an easy gap.

Let’s take a look at an example. As I build up, I’m trying to force my opponent to fail a player switch. So, I bring up the pace and my intention is to pass the ball towards different directions. The idea is to make the player switching as hard as possible.

Because the Defender has to follow my passes with the switching. And at some point, if there are two Defenders who are really close to each other and have a very similar right stick switching input, this will mostly end up with the wrong player switch.

Here, you can see clearly that the opponent takes the left Center back and brings him upwards diagonally, which should have been the move from the right center back. That shows us we actually force seem to do a wrong place, which with quick direction change. And even if he switches to the right player at the end, the job is already done.

Sprinting Too Much

Last but not least, sprinting too much on the other hand is a really bad habit.

Sometimes, we see players who want to run like crazy without lifting their fingers from the sprinting button. You can’t run like this unless you have a full free space ahead of you. By sprinting that much, you lose your total control in the ball and give the opponent a chance to interfere more. And this is where we punish them.

Once you see that kind of a tendency, wait for the opponent to over commit to his run, and then switch to one of your players who is on the moving path, and move out decisively for the tackle.

Here is how I do it: the first touch on the ball usually indicates what the opponent will do next. So, in this position, I see that he bursts out with the ball towards the space ahead of him. And if he continues with his run without me intercepting him, that could be huge for his attack.

But in the meantime, he pushes the ball away from himself just because he consistently runs.

Knowing that fact, I need to switch to my Defender on the moving path by using the right analog stick switching and move him exactly on the runner’s running lane.

And just because he’s not in full control of the ball, it is very easy for me to get a tackle in. Analyzing the opponent and getting decisive is important.
