NEWS DETAIL
Recently, 3rd Inning content for MLB The Show 26 officially launched, bringing a new Spotlight Program, a brand-new Weekend Classic, and several new Diamond players.
Furthermore, this week will see even more updates, including adjustments to Diamond Quest and Mini Seasons. Meanwhile, MLB The Show 26 also features a new cover player. Without further ado, let's take a look at all the new content launched in MLB The Show.
3rd Inning XP Reward Path
MLB The Show 26's 3rd Inning has officially launched, bringing the brand-new XP Reward Path. For players who struggled to complete the previous game, this path has undergone a long-awaited adjustment - the XP threshold for Boss reward has been reduced from 500,000 XP to 400,000 XP, a 20% reduction.
In addition, the reward path now includes 85+ real-time card packs and a large number of generous Stubs, among other higher-quality rewards. Completing the entire path unlocks an infinite spin wheel, allowing players to continuously farm rewards through online matches. In this 3rd Inning XP Reward Path, players can unlock a series of high-value rewards by accumulating experience points.
First, upon reaching 22,000 XP, players can obtain Carlos Delgado, rated 93 overall. This card is characterized by an extremely aggressive swing and a highly impactful pitch, a type favored by many MLB The Show 26 players.
Next, accumulating 220,000 XP will unlock Corbin Burnes, rated 94 overall. He is a top pitcher known for his drop shots and chip shots, with his drop shots reaching speeds of up to 95 mph, making him exceptionally useful.
The third key reward at 340,000 XP is a Live Series card pack rated 85 or higher, perfect for players looking to bolster their current roster.
Finally, upon reaching 400,000 XP, players will receive a double Boss reward: two Red Diamond player cards.
The first is Francisco Lindor, valued at 58,200 Stubs, possessing excellent defensive abilities and an explosive swing; the other is Juan Soto, whose clutch ability is a whopping 112, making him a significant threat in online play, and valued even higher at 77,001 Stubs, making him the highlight of this route.
May Spotlight Program & Pack
In addition to the new player cards from 3rd Inning, the new Spotlight Program's Spotlight card pack also contains many rare cards.
The top card in the pack is Astros first baseman Christian Walker, a well-rounded card with a 93 overall rating and some good traits. His overall performance at first base is highly anticipated.
Furthermore, this card pack update also includes three new MLB The Show 26 Diamond players.
First up is Seiya Suzuki of Chicago Cubs, who has risen to Diamond rank thanks to his recent outstanding performance; Andy Pages of Los Angeles Dodgers also achieved Diamond status due to his excellent season; and Cristober Sanchez of Philadelphia Phillies joined Diamond ranks in this update.
Weekend Classic 2
Alongside the newly released Spotlight Program, the long-awaited Weekend Classic is now back. As a time-limited, fiercely competitive online mode, it aims to give players the toughest test and abundant rewards.
Compared to previous Weekend Classic updates, the latest Weekend Classic 2 update for MLB The Show 26 features a significantly revamped reward system:
- Revisit Card Packs: The official Rewind Weekend Classic feature allows players who missed out on past rewards to catch up. Now, you can earn Rewind card packs after reaching Bronze rank, giving you a chance to re-acquire past reward cards such as Randy Johnson, Victor Martinez, or Bernie Williams.
- New Rank Rewards: Weekend Classic 2 rewards will unlock after you reach Silver rank, so aim for higher ranks if you want more rewards. Two top rewards are for Yordan Alvarez and Jorge Posada, both rated 94 overall.
Diamond Quest and Mini Seasons
The updated Diamond Quest's central gameplay provides significant benefits to players. It introduces Cityscape Diamond Quest map; the faster you complete it, the more rewards you earn.
Through this method, skilled players can theoretically earn 34,000 to 42,500 MLB The Show 26 Stubs per hour, making it the most effective way to earn Stubs using Diamond Quest.
Mini Seasons, similar to Diamond Quest, doesn't directly earn Stubs but provides opportunities to do so - winning deluxe card packs and selling duplicate high-value player cards also yields substantial Stubs.
New Cover Character
While this update isn't huge, it's quite comprehensive. If you're a long-time MLB The Show 26 player, you might have noticed the new cover character - Bobby Witt Jr. A new booklet featuring Bobby Witt Jr. has also been added to recreate his image.
Does this change indicate he'll replace Aaron Judge as the new cover character?
If an agreement has been reached with Bobby Witt Jr., I'd actually be happy about it. The ability to change the cover figure as the seasons shift, complemented by a decent visual effect, is a great enhancement. If it's really as we speculate, the official announcement will be clear. Your main concern is getting the card before then.
Overall, looking back at the May 8th and earlier updates, player reactions have been very polarized. About a week prior, an update to MLB 26's April Spotlight cards revealed that the final Spotlight Program reward was Ben Rice, rated 93 overall, known for his impactful swing.
What truly angered players was MLB 26's release of a Spotlight pack containing only ten cards, alongside Retro Lighting Collection. Even if you already owned other Spotlight player cards, you still needed to collect the eight cards from Spotlight pack to complete Retro Lighting Collection.
This meant spending a significant amount of Stubs to get Spotlight pack and collect those eight cards. Players felt this was simply a money grab.
In contrast, this latest update received much better feedback.
From the third inning content to the new May Spotlight Program, Weekend Classic 2, new Diamond Quest, and Mini Seasons, this update temporarily quelled player anger and demonstrated MLB The Show 26's commitment to player experience.
As for future updates, we speculate that the update speed may slow down, but the content will be significantly different from before. Let's wait and see as we complete the above content.
