EA Sports will launch EA FC 27 on September 25, 2026, bringing one of the most significant overhauls to its Ultimate Team mode in recent years. This overhaul goes beyond simple roster updates, introducing a brand-new collection system, balance adjustments, and a fundamental rethinking of player progression.

This article will introduce some of the most important new features coming to FUT 27 and share some of my thoughts.

FUT Gallery

Needless to say, the most important feature of FC 27 is undoubtedly FUT Gallery, which is like a digital sticker book, or a permanent museum for your club. In previous games, player cards had only two uses: either for the starting lineup or as fodder for team-building challenges. In FIFA 27, every card you acquire will have a third, permanent home.

Work Mechanism

The gallery is divided into different themed sets based on country, league, club, and various events. Once you acquire players, they are automatically added to your collection and permanently retained, even if you later sell, discard, or use them in SBC.

Rating System

However, completing sets isn't the ultimate goal. Each set you acquire earns a letter rating, from D to S. This rating is determined by the cumulative score of the cards you submit, calculated based on the player's overall rating and rarity. To achieve a higher rating, you need to fill the set with high-value cards, such as Team of the Week (TOTW) or Icon cards.

Rewards and Progression

As your collection expands, your FUT Gallery's level will also increase. Leveling up unlocks milestone rewards, exclusive club skins, and a new currency called Gallery Tokens. These tokens can be used in a brand-new, dedicated token shop that will be continuously updated throughout the year.

Review

This system transforms player collecting from a simple means into a core progression mechanism, rewarding players for building diverse and high-quality player collections. This is indeed a feature with long-term development potential, allowing players who have invested heavily in FUT 27 to see tangible results beyond their current rosters.

However, the problem is that the system might tempt players to spend large amounts of FC 27 Coins trading for more card packs to improve their FUT Gallery, without considering whether their teams actually need them.

FUT Evolutions

FIFA 27's evolution system adds two important features: Evolution Pathways and Evolution Chain Preview.

Evolution Pathways

This feature will provide FC 27 players with more choices: some evolution paths are no longer single linear upgrade routes, but will present branching options. For example, players may need to choose between two paths that improve opposite attributes, such as improving dribbling and passing abilities, or improving defense and physical attributes. This allows for deeper personalization.

Evolution Chain Preview

In addition, FUT 27 introduces Evolution Chain Preview, which allows players to accurately see which future evolutions a player can undergo before starting their first evolution. This transparency will help players plan their evolution chains more effectively, without guesswork or reliance on third-party websites.

Review

Previously, evolution often felt like a pre-set route. The newly added evolution path feature may make player evolution more interesting, allowing each player to have their own unique path.

The evolution chain preview feature is something the community has been hoping for for years, previously only available through third-party platforms. Now it's finally in FUT 27, but whether it will be as smooth as promised remains to be seen after the official launch. Stay tuned!

Roles and Attacking Spatial Awareness

All special cards in EA FC 27 will automatically receive Role++ enhancements in all positions of their primary and secondary roles, providing greater tactical freedom. In addition, the game has added Attacking Spatial Awareness system, designed to help players better identify space and break free from the constraints of specific positions, allowing for free movement.

Review

This is a direct change to the gameplay, and it's the most exciting feature for me. Role++ enhancement for all special cards addresses one of the most frustrating issues for players in recent years: cards being unable to be used in ideal positions.

Attacking Spatial Awareness feature seems to encourage more creativity in attack, but it also risks making matches more unpredictable and defense more difficult. In the past, such innovations have often been quickly canceled; it remains to be seen how long this feature will last.

Balance Adjustments

A long-standing complaint from the player community is that card strength increases too quickly, causing cards to become obsolete within weeks. 

Therefore, EA Sports has stated that they plan to significantly reduce the gap between basic cards and the strongest seasonal cards, compared to EA FC 26. PlayStyle+ cap per card will be reduced from 5 to 3, and the number of weeks for new season lineup releases will be reduced by approximately 5 weeks.

Review

A major problem in FIFA 26 was inflation; players who temporarily stopped playing were unable to compete with the latest cards upon their return. Reducing the number of season weeks and narrowing the gap between basic and top-tier cards sounds like a step in the right direction. However, the actual results remain to be seen.

Other

In addition to the main points mentioned above, EA Sports announced several other changes, briefly summarized below:

• Streamlined SBCs - Enables easier access to Squad Building Challenges
• Holographic Cards - Introduce a new rarity tier without affecting attribute values
• Single Player Live Events - Expand the mode for the first time with themed offline challenges
• End-of-Match Rewards - Distribute rewards more directly after each match
• Event Tokens - Return as a cross-mode reward system

These are some of the key new features in FIFA 27's Ultimate Team mode. These changes will break away from the previous format and bring a completely new gaming experience to FUT 27 players, demonstrating that EA has put considerable thought into this. However, the actual results will only be revealed after the game's release.
