MLB The Show 23 from SIE San Diego Studio allows you to create multiple Ballplayers for use in Road to the Show and Diamond Dynasty, similar to last year's game.

To fully customize your Ballplayer, you can choose from a range of Playstyles (also known as Loadouts) and Perks, which affect your Ballplayer's attributes in various ways. To help you create the best Ballplayer for your playstyle, we've put together a guide detailing the top Ballplayer Loadouts and Perks available in MLB The Show 23.

Skill Sets

If you want to create a new Ballplayer in MLB The Show 23, you can pick between being a Pitcher, Position Player, or Two-Way Player based on your preference. Your starting Skill Set depends on your position and playstyle, but you can further customize it by specifying your specialties.

Completing tasks in Road to the Show unlocks improved versions of your starting Skill Set, which enhances your game performance. You can equip Perks and Equipment aligned with your Skill Set to enhance your Ballplayer's abilities.

The most important thing in MLB The Show 23 is to create a Ballplayer that you enjoy playing as. You can choose to be a Two-Way Player, like we currently are, and specialize in positions like Shortstop and Closing Pitcher, emphasizing Velocity and Power with the Cheesy Slugger Skill Set.

However, we also added Perks that boost our Speed so we can steal bases. It's up to you to decide what type of player you want and customize your Playstyles by equipping different Perks and Equipment combinations in the Ballplayer menu. Switch up your approach anytime to keep it fresh and exciting.

Choose Perks and Equipment that complement your Skill Set, such as boosting power for a power-focused player or offsetting contact weaknesses. Customize your Ballplayer to match your preferred style and consider the impact of different combinations to enhance performance.

Perks

After selecting your preferred position and starting Skill Set in MLB The Show 23, you can further refine your playstyle by leveraging Perks. There are two ways to approach this: you can either enhance the focus of your Skill Set by selecting Perks that provide increased statistical boosts to your strengths, or you can use Perks to address your weaknesses, thereby creating a more well-rounded player.

Make a thoughtful decision on which approach to take to tailor your Ballplayer more perfectly to your preferred style of play.

The core list of Perks are: Break, Contact, Control, Fielding, Power, Speed, Velocity

Perks are categorized into numbered variations, each offering pros and cons.

For instance, a Power Perk can increase your Power but reduce your Fielding. To tailor your Ballplayer perfectly to your preferred style of play, take into account your position and required tasks, and think carefully about how various Perks align with your Skill Set.

Perks are divided into proficiency categories such as Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Diamond.

While Diamond Perks provide greater bonuses to your statistics, they require more effort to unlock and come at a higher cost. As you advance through Skill Set Programs, you will earn new Perks automatically; additionally, you can acquire Perks from the Community Market using Stubs. It is worth noting that Perk selection can be a challenging decision.

To further elaborate on Perks in MLB The Show 23, in addition to the core Perks, you'll also unlock specialized Dynamic Perks that trigger in unique scenarios, such as First Strike for Pitching, which weakens Contact for the first two pitches of an at-bat, or Righty Specialist, which increases Contact against right-handed pitchers.

However, as these Perks are more niche, it's recommended to focus first on enhancing your statistics until you can attach four Perks. You can then utilize one of these Dynamic Perks to personalize your playstyle further. These Dynamic Perks can be unlocked by playing the game or purchased using MLB The Show 23 Stubs from the Community Market.

To answer your question, selecting the right Perks in MLB The Show 23 is ultimately a matter of personal preference. Depending on your playing style, you can choose Perks that complement and enhance your Skill Set strengths, or even address weaknesses to create a more well-rounded Ballplayer. For example, if you're prone to getting into two-strike counts as a batter, you might want to consider Defibrillator, which provides a significant Contact boost in those situations.

If you're a frequent base stealer, then Base Commander could be a good option as it increases your Speed during base stealing scenarios. To maximize the benefits of these Dynamic Perks, try pairing them with your existing Skill Set and other Perks. Keep in mind that these Dynamic Perks are more niche, so it's best to focus on enhancing your statistics first before utilizing them to personalize your playstyle further.
